Arizona Firefighters Rescue Donkey From Canal

A donkey stuck in a canal near Eloy, Arizona got a second chance at life thanks to quick-thinking firefighters who know their way around more than just fires.

Crews from the Eloy Fire District rushed to Highway 87 and Shedd Road after receiving reports of an animal in distress. The donkey had somehow ended up in a Central Arizona Project canal and couldn't get out on its own.

Firefighters used ropes and a vehicle to carefully pull the frightened animal from the water. The rescue required both technical skills and a gentle touch to keep the donkey calm during the operation.

Battalion Chief Travis Hartman and firefighter Hannah Hartman examined the donkey after the rescue. Both have livestock experience, which proved invaluable in making sure the animal hadn't suffered serious injuries during its unexpected swim.
