Bhookle Connects 1,000 Home Cooks to Hungry City Dwellers
A son's tribute to his mother has become a thriving food delivery platform connecting nearly 1,000 home cooks across India with people craving authentic, home-cooked meals. Bhookle has delivered over 50,000 meals in Bengaluru alone, turning kitchens into businesses.
When Arvind Ravichandran lost his mother Mythili to COVID-19, he found himself searching desperately for the comfort food dishes she used to make. Regular delivery apps couldn't help, so the 40-year-old IT professional decided to build something different.
In 2024, he launched Bhookle in Chennai, a food delivery platform powered entirely by home cooks. The name pays tribute to mothers like his own, whose love language was feeding others.
The concept took off quickly. After starting as a pilot in Chennai, Bhookle expanded to Bengaluru last year and now connects 994 home cooks across both cities with customers craving authentic, home-cooked meals. In Bengaluru alone, the platform has delivered over 50,000 meals and reached 100,000 app installations.
Most of Bhookle's cooks are older women who never imagined turning their kitchen skills into income. Because many aren't comfortable with technology, Arvind built the ordering system around WhatsApp instead of complicated chatbots.
The onboarding process focuses on authenticity. When home cooks apply through the app, Bhookle's team learns about their background and cultural traditions, then helps them design menus true to their heritage. Before going live, the team visits each kitchen to audit quality, sample dishes, and record the cooks at work.

Every cook receives help getting FSSAI certification, bringing informal home cooking into a formal, trusted framework. The platform showcases regional cuisines often missing from restaurant menus, from Sindhi and Marathi to Odia and Rajasthani specialties.
The Ripple Effect
What started as pre-orders has evolved into instant delivery and daily meal subscriptions. Bengaluru customers, especially office workers, have embraced the service with 600 monthly subscriptions across both cities. Seven to eight companies now order regular meal deliveries for their employees.
Weekend demand peaks as working professionals seek the comfort of home-cooked food they remember from childhood. While Mughlai biryani and simple South Indian meals top the order list, customers are discovering regional dishes they've never tried before.
For the home cooks, many of them mothers and grandmothers, Bhookle offers more than income. It validates decades of cooking expertise and connects them with people who genuinely appreciate their food.
Arvind's mother would have loved knowing her kitchen legacy sparked a movement giving hundreds of home cooks the recognition they deserve.
