Doctors currently recommend antibiotics within 72 hours if a tick has been attached for 36 hours in high-risk areas. But without testing the actual tick, physicians like Dawicki have to guess, leading to blanket prescriptions that may not be necessary.
Her at-home test concept emerged from a class assignment she almost skipped. Dawicki joined the health care entrepreneurship course late and got assigned the Lyme disease track. She planned to just check the box and move on.
But the morning pitches were due, the solution became crystal clear. Her patients needed accessible testing without the barriers of cost, time off work, or office appointments.
