Bristol Teens Break Records in Scorching Heat
High school track athletes from Bristol, Connecticut pushed through brutal heat to deliver championship performances and personal bests. Three runners earned prestigious All-Conference honors while setting the stage for upcoming state competitions.
When temperatures soared to dangerous levels in Bristol, Connecticut last Tuesday, a group of teenage athletes ran straight toward the challenge and came out champions.
Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern high schools competed in the CCC Central boys track championships, where the heat couldn't stop several students from having career-defining days. Reinaldo Soto led Bristol Central to a third-place finish, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.11 seconds while also placing in the long jump and triple jump.
His teammate Malikia Holley matched that energy, claiming the long jump title with a leap of 21 feet, 6 inches. Holley also secured second place in the triple jump and third in the 200 meters, earning All-Conference recognition alongside Soto.
Perhaps the most thrilling moment came when Naythan Pellerin crossed the finish line in the 800 meters at 1:59.64, breaking the two-minute barrier to claim gold. That kind of time typically comes after months of grueling training and perfect race execution.
Bristol Eastern's Jacob Rogers brought home his own championship in the javelin, earning All-Conference honors and the CCC Central Champion title. Malachi Gordon rounded out the All-Conference athletes with a third-place finish in the 400 meters.

Bristol Central coach Tamara Stafford couldn't contain her pride. "The hottest part of the CCC Central Championship was our boys scorching up the track and field events," she said, noting the team scored 96 points overall.
Why This Inspires
These teenagers demonstrated something beyond athletic ability. When conditions turned brutal and every muscle screamed to slow down, they chose to dig deeper.
That mental toughness matters far beyond the track. The same determination that pushes a runner through oppressive heat translates to classroom challenges, college applications, and future careers.
Bristol Central's core group carried their entire program on their backs this season, according to Coach Stafford. Bristol Eastern coach Paul Ryskowski noted his team "fought through the heat" and looked forward to the upcoming CCC Championships.
Both teams now head into championship season with momentum, confidence, and proof that their months of early morning practices and weekend meets have paid off in personal records and podium finishes.
