Lush green forest estate with fruit trees and organic gardens near Mumbai India

Brothers Transform Barren Mumbai Land Into 3-Acre Forest

✨ Faith Restored

Two brothers spent 15 years turning a desolate plot with a single tamarind tree into a thriving forest estate near Mumbai. Their patience and commitment to organic farming created an oasis that now welcomes travelers seeking escape from city chaos.

A single tamarind tree stood alone on barren red soil in 2007. Today, that same plot near Mumbai bursts with 800 trees, organic gardens, and hope.

Brothers Keyur and Nishit Barad spent 15 years transforming their father's three-acre property in Dahisar village into The Chlorophyll Estate. What started as a simple dream has become a flourishing farmstay just an hour from Mumbai's chaos.

Their father Girdhar bought the land for his brother, who wanted to leave business behind and return to nature. The property had almost nothing back then, just murum (crumbly red laterite stone) and that solitary tamarind tree.

The brothers weren't farmers when they started. Everything was trial and error, with plenty of setbacks along the way.

"We faced many setbacks such as wasted seasons, failed crops, unseasonal rains, cyclones, and extreme heat," Keyur explains. But they refused to use chemical fertilizers, choosing patience instead.

Their first crops were lady fingers and bottle gourds, planted in layered red soil and nourished with mulch and cow dung. The land responded quickly, rewarding their organic approach with abundant yields.

Today, 140 varieties of plants thrive on the estate. Five types of mangoes, seven citrus varieties, and exotic finds like Medziphema pineapples from Nagaland call this forest home. Italian basil, lemongrass, stevia, and seasonal flowers fill the gardens.

The COVID-19 lockdown sparked an unexpected transformation. Nishit's family packed for a three-day trip to the farm and ended up staying three months.

"After three months, we realized that what we had was gold," Keyur says. They converted the property into a farmstay where travelers can experience sustainable living firsthand.

The Ripple Effect

The brothers discovered something powerful through their journey. When you nurture soil year after year without chemicals, the flavor, fragrance, and yield improve exponentially. Nature rewards kindness with abundance.

Their story shows what's possible when patience meets purpose. Visitors now come from across India to experience this forest oasis, learning that sustainable farming isn't just viable but can create something extraordinary.

The estate proves that transformation doesn't happen overnight. Fifteen years of toil, sweat, and perseverance turned impossible soil into fertile ground.

One tamarind tree became a forest, and two brothers honored their father's vision by turning barren land into living proof that nature always gives back.
