Canada Backs Ukraine's Clean Energy Rebuild

Canada just committed to helping Ukraine rebuild its shattered energy grid with clean, modern technology instead of just patching what was lost. The announcement came Wednesday in Paris, where the two nations signed a strategic energy partnership focused on renewable energy and infrastructure security.

Russian strikes have devastated Ukraine's power system since the 2022 invasion, targeting stations, transmission lines, and gas facilities. Just this week, attacks killed three people and left tens of thousands without electricity and heat.

The two countries will conduct risk assessments and training exercises to protect energy facilities from future attacks. They're also strengthening cooperation on nuclear fuel supply to reduce dependence on Russian sources.
