China and Finland Forge Closer Business Ties in Beijing

Business leaders from China and Finland are betting big on collaboration, with more than 120 representatives meeting in Beijing this week to forge new partnerships in green technology and innovation.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao led the 6th China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation Meeting on Monday. The gathering brought together companies eager to turn discussions into real projects.

"China is an important trading partner and export market for Finland," Orpo told attendees. Finnish companies see enormous potential in the Chinese market, particularly in areas where both nations excel.

The meeting focused on three key areas where China and Finland can work together: green and low-carbon development, circular economy solutions, and industrial digitalization. Since the committee launched in 2017, it has become the main platform connecting businesses from both countries.

Several commercial agreements were signed during the event. Representatives held what officials described as "in-depth and lively discussions" about innovation, green development, and digital transformation.

Finland positioned itself as a supporter of free trade and fair competition. Orpo welcomed Chinese companies to invest in Finland and promised to create favorable conditions for their business operations.

Wang emphasized that this year marks the first year of China's 15th Five Year Plan. He encouraged businesses on both sides to seize opportunities and expand cooperation in trade, investment, and innovation.

The strengthened partnership between China and Finland could influence broader Europe-China relations. Wang urged the Finnish government to help the EU use economic tools more carefully and oppose protectionism.
