Clint and Lisa Hartman Black: 35 Years, One Simple Rule

After nearly 35 years together, Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black have cracked the code to lasting love, and it's surprisingly simple: talk everything through.

The country music star and "Knots Landing" actress met backstage on New Year's Eve 1990 and married less than a year later. Today, they're executive producing a Lifetime movie inspired by their hit duet "When I Said I Do," but their real-life romance remains their greatest collaboration.

"We strongly believe in communicating," Lisa told Fox News Digital. "It sounds so simple, but you really, really have to talk everything through."

The couple follows advice country legend Roy Rogers once gave Clint: Never go to bed angry. Lisa says that rule has saved them countless times when misunderstandings threatened to drive a wedge between them.

"You can't get in the car and drive away," she explained. "A lot of times, you find it was just misinterpreted."

Lisa emphasizes that knowing your partner's heart makes all the difference. She trusts that Clint would never intentionally hurt her, and when feelings do get bruised, they clear the air immediately.

Their commitment was tested during their journey to parenthood. The couple endured four pregnancy losses before welcoming daughter Lily Pearl in 2001. They kept those heartbreaks private to maintain hope, but they got through it together.

When Lily was born, Clint took three years off to be a full-time parent. Lisa looks back on that decision with deep gratitude for the special family time it created.
