Credit One Bank Awards $300K to 30 Nevada Students

Thirty Southern Nevada students walked into Credit One Bank's Las Vegas headquarters on June 3rd knowing their college dreams just became reality. Each received a $10,000 scholarship to pursue higher education right here in Nevada.

Credit One Bank awarded $300,000 total through its One For The Community Scholarship program this year. The initiative partnered with the Public Education Foundation for the fourth year running, awarding 20 students. For the first time, Credit One also teamed up with Project 150, supporting 10 additional students.

The numbers tell a powerful story. Since launching in 2023, the program has now helped 77 students total. This year's $300,000 represents the program's largest investment yet in Southern Nevada's future.

The recipients come from schools across the valley, from Basic Academy to Silverado High, from technical academies to College of Southern Nevada campuses. They're heading to University of Nevada Las Vegas, University of Nevada Reno, and Nevada State University this fall.

"These students have demonstrated remarkable determination, leadership and commitment to their futures," said Mamta Kapoor, Community Reinvestment Officer with Credit One Bank. The expansion through Project 150 means reaching students who face significant obstacles while pursuing their education.

The Ripple Effect

Every scholarship creates waves far beyond one student's tuition bill. When a student like Abigail Luel or Jonathan Garcia gets $10,000, their entire family feels the relief. Parents who worried about second jobs can breathe easier. Younger siblings see college as possible, not just aspirational.

The Public Education Foundation's Jeff Wells calls these students "the next generation of Southern Nevada leaders." After four years of partnership, that prediction looks increasingly accurate. Project 150's Kelli Kristo notes the scholarships "remove financial barriers while opening doors to future opportunities" for students already overcoming tremendous challenges.

Credit One Bank isn't just writing checks. They're investing in doctors who will serve Nevada communities, teachers who will educate Nevada children, engineers who will build Nevada's infrastructure. Seventy-seven students staying in Nevada means 77 college graduates who already call this place home.

These 30 new recipients join a growing network of scholars who prove that when businesses invest locally, entire communities rise together.
