Delta Police Rescue 2 Kids from Drug Den, Arrest 22

Police in Delta State, Nigeria rescued two minors from a suspected drug den allegedly run by their own father during a coordinated raid on July 21, 2026.

The operation targeted known drug trafficking locations in Ozoro and Abraka communities based on intelligence reports. Officers arrested 22 suspects, including 19 men and three women, on charges related to selling and distributing illegal drugs.

The discovery of children living inside a drug operation shocked investigators. Police immediately took the minors into protective custody and arranged their transfer to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, where they'll receive proper care while the investigation continues.

Deputy Commissioner of Police led the operation personally, demonstrating the command's serious commitment to dismantling drug networks. The team focused on four specific locations: Ofagbe Community in Ozoro, Ekrejeta, and the NUT Area in Abraka.

Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi called finding children in such a dangerous environment "deeply disturbing." He emphasized that protecting vulnerable people remains a top priority alongside stopping drug trafficking.

The Ripple Effect

This rescue represents part of a larger movement across Nigerian states to break up drug operations while safeguarding at-risk children. Just two weeks earlier, Yobe State Police conducted a similar raid that arrested 14 suspected dealers and seized over 300 packets of illegal substances including Tramadol and other prohibited drugs.

Delta State authorities are asking parents, guardians, and community leaders to continue sharing information with police. The commissioner promised sustained intelligence-based operations to keep communities safe from drug-related crime.

The two rescued children now have a chance at a safer future, away from the dangerous environment they were living in. Their case shows how community-focused policing can protect the most vulnerable while addressing serious crime.
