Egypt's Green Tech Hackathon Offers $50K for Climate Innovators

Young innovators across Egypt now have a powerful new opportunity to transform their environmental ideas into businesses that could change the world.

The Athar Green Tech Hackathon 2026 is calling on students, researchers, startups, and aspiring entrepreneurs to bring their climate solutions forward. The program, created in partnership with the Embassy of Finland, offers something rare: not just funding, but a complete support system to turn promising ideas into market-ready ventures.

Twenty teams will be selected to participate in the intensive three-day program. They'll receive hands-on training in everything from design thinking to business model development, all while working directly with experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts who understand what it takes to build a successful green technology company.

The hackathon welcomes solutions across a wide range of environmental challenges. Teams working on renewable energy, water technology, sustainable agriculture, circular economy innovations, and climate adaptation are all encouraged to apply.

What makes this program special is its focus on real-world impact. Participants won't just present ideas; they'll learn how to validate problems, test solutions, and develop strategies for scaling their startups.

The Ripple Effect

The program's structure reflects a growing understanding that solving climate challenges requires more than just good intentions. It requires entrepreneurial skills, market knowledge, and the kind of practical support that can transform a research project or student idea into a viable business.

The three winning teams will each receive 50,000 Egyptian pounds to advance their ventures. But even teams that don't win the top prizes will leave with something valuable: the skills, connections, and confidence needed to continue building their solutions.

The initiative particularly encourages female-led teams to apply, recognizing that diverse perspectives strengthen innovation. Teams must have at least two members and demonstrate both environmental impact and commercialization potential.

Applications are open until July 30, 2026. Teams need to clearly explain the problem they're solving, their proposed solution, and how they plan to scale their innovation.
