RV Concept Recycles Water All Season With Solar Power

Imagine camping for weeks without ever stopping to refill your water tank or dump waste.

German RV manufacturer Dethleffs just unveiled a concept camper that makes this possible with a closed-loop water system that purifies and reuses the same water all season long. The C.core prototype, revealed at the 2026 Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, represents a major leap forward for sustainable mobile living.

The 23-foot camper van sits on a Volkswagen Crafter chassis and packs some seriously clever eco-innovations. Its standout feature is the water recycling system that eliminates the need for large storage tanks and constant refilling trips that plague traditional RVs.

But the water system is just the beginning. The C.core features a "solar flower" that stores flat between roof rails while driving, then expands outward at camp to generate up to 600 watts of power while doubling as an awning. The panels slide out and rotate into position, maximizing energy collection without taking up extra space.

Dethleffs built the camper using Necto, a lightweight material inspired by bird bone structure. The biomimetic aluminum panels are stronger and more moldable than traditional RV materials, allowing for sculpted curves and better fuel efficiency. Every design choice focuses on doing more with less.

Inside, the space transforms to match different needs. The kitchen hides inside a sideboard cabinet, sliding out to reveal induction burners, a sink, and workspace. The bathroom features a swiveling sink and sliding toilet that tuck away to create shower space. Even the entertainment system is thoughtful, using a retractable screen and projector instead of a bulky television.

The outdoor kitchen slides out as a single unit before unfolding into a full cooking station. A huge pass-through garage stores bikes and camping gear without sacrificing living space. The front lounge converts between dining, socializing, and sleeping configurations with swiveling cab seats and extending benches.

Why This Inspires

While Dethleffs designed the C.core strictly as a research vehicle rather than a production model, it shows what's possible when companies reimagine mobile living from the ground up. The technologies being tested in this rolling laboratory could eventually trickle down to affordable RVs, making sustainable camping accessible to everyone.

The concept proves that eco-friendly doesn't mean sacrificing comfort or convenience. By recycling water, harvesting solar energy, and using nature-inspired materials, the C.core actually enhances the camping experience while dramatically reducing environmental impact.

Dethleffs will use the prototype to test these innovations in real-world conditions, gathering data to refine the technologies for future applications. The concept follows the company's nearly decade-long commitment to developing greener RV solutions, including last year's E.Home Eco and this year's E.Fold expandable caravan.
