Ethiopia to Host COP32 Climate Summit, Secures Major Backing

Ethiopia is gearing up to host the world's most important climate summit while strengthening partnerships that could transform how vulnerable nations access climate funding.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide met with Tariye Gbadegesin, head of the Climate Investment Funds, during the recent World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings. The two leaders discussed ramping up climate finance for countries that need it most but often struggle to get it.

Minister Shide thanked CIF for its work getting money to low-income countries fighting climate change. He emphasized that Ethiopia remains committed to green development and will need strong partnerships as it prepares to welcome world leaders for COP32.

Gbadegesin congratulated Ethiopia on winning the bid to host the major climate conference. She promised CIF's full support and highlighted new opportunities to work together on nature-based solutions and helping industries reduce carbon emissions.

The timing couldn't be better. Later this month, Addis Ababa will host the CIF Global Knowledge Exchange, bringing together climate experts and leaders from across Africa. The African Development Bank and World Bank are co-hosting the event, which will serve as a testing ground for the kind of collaboration Ethiopia wants to showcase at COP32.

Ethiopia's success at securing COP32 sends a powerful message to other developing nations. Countries on the frontlines of climate change are stepping up to lead global conversations about solutions, not just suffer the consequences.
