Fiat's $15K Electric Car Hits U.S. With 46-Mile Range

Getting around town just became a lot more affordable, thanks to Fiat's adorable new electric vehicle that costs less than most used cars.

The Italian automaker is now selling the Topolino EV in the United States for $14,985. The compact two-seater measures just over eight feet long and weighs only 1,073 pounds, making it one of the smallest electric vehicles available anywhere.

Despite its tiny size, the Topolino packs some impressive features. Its 5-kWh battery delivers 46 miles of range per charge, perfect for short trips around town. The vehicle charges fully in about five hours using a standard outlet.

Buyers can choose between two versions at the same price. The standard model comes with asymmetrical doors and a glass sunroof, while the Dolce Vita edition features rope barriers instead of doors and a roll-up soft top. Every Topolino comes in a cheerful green color with retro wheel covers, a digital dashboard, and a phone holder with USB-C charging.

Right now, the Topolino can only be driven on private property like gated communities, resorts, and country clubs. Its 8-horsepower motor currently tops out at 19 mph.

The Bright Side

Here's where it gets even better. Starting this fall, Fiat will provide a free conversion kit that makes the Topolino street-legal as a Low Speed Vehicle. The upgrade adds a backup camera, rearview mirror, and pedestrian alert system while boosting the top speed to 25 mph. That means owners can cruise public roads in neighborhoods, beach towns, and downtown areas without spending an extra penny.

The timing couldn't be better for budget-conscious buyers looking to go electric. With gas prices fluctuating and environmental concerns growing, a $15,000 electric option fills a gap in the market that manufacturers have largely ignored. No other new electric vehicle in America comes close to this price point.
