Four Astronauts Set for September Space Station Mission

This September, four explorers from three nations will blast off together to live and work aboard the International Space Station, proving that even in challenging times, humanity can still reach for the stars as one team.

NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney will lead the SpaceX Crew-13 mission as commander and pilot. They'll be joined by Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Russian cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov for a months-long science expedition.

The mission marks a significant milestone for Watkins, who will become the first NASA astronaut to launch aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft twice. The geologist from Lafayette, Colorado, previously spent 170 days in space studying how to prepare humans for future Mars missions.

For Delaney, Kutryk, and Teteryatnikov, this represents their first journey to space. Delaney brings experience as a naval aviator and NASA research pilot, while Kutryk served as a Canadian CF-18 fighter pilot and test pilot with multiple advanced degrees in aerospace fields.

NASA moved the launch date up from November to September to increase how often crew rotations happen at the station. This acceleration shows the agency's commitment to maintaining continuous human presence in space and advancing research that can't be done on Earth.
