Four Donkeys Named Mary and Three Wise Men Saved

Four abandoned donkeys scheduled to be put down on Christmas Day have found a new home together, thanks to an outpouring of compassion from people across Ireland.

Danny Curran, owner of Raphoe Donkey Sanctuary in Donegal, received word this week about four donkeys abandoned and facing euthanasia. The animals had been named Mary and the Three Wise Men, a fitting nod to the Christmas season that would make their story resonate far beyond one county.

Danny faced an impossible situation. His sanctuary already sheltered 54 donkeys, leaving no room for the new arrivals, including Mary who is pregnant.

But the story of these four donkeys touched hearts across the country. Danny received calls from as far away as Cork from people wanting to help.

Now all four donkeys have been rehomed together in the same location. Mary will deliver her foal safely, and the Three Wise Men will stay by her side.
