Four Savannah Schools Win Top State Academic Awards

Four schools in Savannah just proved that excellence isn't an accident. The Georgia Governor's Office of Student Achievement awarded them top honors for turning learning into real results.

Woodville-Tompkins Technical and Career High School, Garden City Elementary School, and Alfred Ely Beach High School all earned Greatest Gains awards for dramatic academic improvement. Savannah Arts Academy took home recognition in the Highest Performing category for maintaining exceptional standards.

The awards aren't participation trophies. State officials calculate them using a three-year average of College and Career Ready Performance Index scores, which track either student growth or content mastery depending on the category.

Woodville-Tompkins stood out with a Platinum-level award for the second consecutive year, showing that sustained excellence is possible. Garden City Elementary earned Silver recognition, while Beach High took home Bronze for its growth trajectory.

Dr. MJ Kim with the Governor's Office of Student Achievement emphasized the weight of these honors. "These awards are not handed out generously," she said. "They go to schools that have genuinely earned them because growth requires intentional instruction, consistent effort and a belief that every student is capable of more."
