France and UAE Launch $2.2B Green Energy Hub Across Asia
Two energy giants are joining forces to build a massive clean energy network spanning nine Asian countries. The partnership will power millions of homes with solar and wind by 2030.
France's TotalEnergies and the UAE's Masdar just signed a deal that could reshape Asia's energy future, pooling $2.2 billion to build solar farms, wind turbines, and battery storage across nine countries.
The 50-50 partnership merges their renewable operations in Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Uzbekistan. When regulatory approvals come through, this joint venture will be the only vehicle both companies use to develop clean energy in these markets.
The numbers tell an impressive story. The partnership starts with 3 gigawatts of already-operational clean energy assets and plans to add another 6 gigawatts by 2030. That's enough electricity to power millions of homes without burning a single drop of fossil fuel.
Each company brings equal value to the table, combining their money and expertise to move faster than either could alone. The new company will run from Abu Dhabi with about 200 employees from both partners working together.

The Ripple Effect
Asia's electricity demand will grow more than any other region this decade, and this partnership arrives at exactly the right moment. As countries across the continent work to replace coal and gas plants, having major international players committed to solar and wind projects makes those transitions more realistic.
Sultan Al Jaber, who chairs Masdar and serves as UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, sees the partnership unlocking opportunities across the continent. The collaboration gives Asian countries access to proven renewable energy solutions just when they need them most.
The timing matters for climate goals too. Every gigawatt of clean energy built in Asia helps reduce global carbon emissions while meeting the region's surging energy needs. This deal shows that major energy companies increasingly see renewables not as a side project but as their core business in fast-growing markets.
By 2030, this partnership could be powering homes and businesses across nine countries with nothing but sunshine and wind.
