"The hospital said I was lucky not to be in surgery or have a brain bleed," Jones said. She spent weeks battling headaches, dizziness, and concussion symptoms.

The emotional toll hit just as hard as the physical damage. For someone who thrives on productivity and progress, the stop-start recovery felt overwhelming.

Jones had barely recovered from the gym accident when she was forced to retire from the Australian Open with a torn hip muscle. Her ranking dropped from 65th to 105th in the world.

Jones squeezed into the French Open main draw only after higher-ranked players withdrew. Facing Haddad Maia, she fell behind a set and a break.
