Global Battery Storage Doubles, Surpasses 100GW Milestone

The numbers come from the Volta Foundation's 2025 Battery Report, a 750-page analysis created by 120 battery experts from more than 90 institutions worldwide. The report tracks everything from electric vehicles to stationary storage systems that help stabilize power grids.

What makes this growth even more remarkable is the speed. Battery storage capacity more than doubled in just one year, smashing through the symbolic 100-gigawatt threshold that signals the technology has moved from experimental to mainstream.

The driver behind this surge? Costs keep falling. As battery production scales up and manufacturing improves, storing renewable energy becomes cheaper and more practical for utilities, businesses, and homeowners.
