Hawaii Rep. Lowen Named Top EV Legislative Champion

State Rep. Nicole Lowen is proving that the right policies can transform how families get around while saving them money at the gas pump.

The Electric Vehicle Association just named the Hawaii legislator their 2026 Legislative Ambassador of the Year. The national honor recognizes her work championing laws that make electric vehicles and charging stations more accessible across the islands.

Lowen represents District 7, covering Kailua-Kona, Honokōhau, and several other communities along Hawaii's coast. As Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Environmental Protection, she's been pushing legislation that expands EV access while building out the charging infrastructure families need to make the switch practical.

"By supporting policies that expand access to EVs and charging infrastructure, we are offering residents more affordable transportation options that also reduce pollution and lower our dependence on imported fuels," Lowen said after receiving the award.

Her timing couldn't be better. With gas prices climbing again, electric vehicles offer Hawaii families a way to cut their monthly transportation costs significantly. But Lowen recognizes that cost savings only work if people can actually charge their vehicles conveniently.
