Hunter Women's Cross Country Eyes 12th Straight CUNYAC Title

Hunter College's women's cross country team is on the verge of making history with a dynasty that just keeps running.

The Hawks earned top billing in the 2026 CUNY Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, with six of eight first-place votes pointing toward their 12th straight championship. That's more than a decade of dominance in New York City college running.

Hunter's success last season laid the groundwork for this year's expectations. Four Hawks finished in the top nine at the 2025 conference championship, showcasing the depth that makes them so hard to beat.

Leading the charge is Shannon Ferri, last year's CUNYAC Performer of the Year. She crossed the 6K finish line in second place with a blazing time of 25:09.7, setting the pace for her teammates to follow.

The competition isn't backing down without a fight. Medgar Evers, which claimed its best-ever finish with second place last season, grabbed one first-place vote and sits second in the poll with 38 points.

Baruch and CCNY tied for third with 34 points each. The Bearcats snagged the remaining first-place vote, showing coaches believe an upset could be brewing.
