The launch carries extra weight for ISRO. In August 2021, the agency lost the original Gisat-1 satellite when its rocket experienced a third-stage anomaly mid-flight.
Friday's success demonstrates how ISRO learned from that setback. The team improved the rocket's propulsion system and optimized its structural design, allowing it to carry the heaviest satellite ever launched by this vehicle at 2,367 kg.
The timing matters even more because ISRO recently faced several challenges. In January, the agency failed to place navigation satellite NVS-02 in its intended orbit due to technical issues, rendering it unusable for satellite-based positioning.
