India Opens 5.6 GW Solar Plant, Doubles Clean Energy Capacity

A sprawling solar manufacturing campus in southern India just fired up production lines capable of churning out enough solar panels to power millions of homes each year.

Premier Energies opened its 5.6 gigawatt solar module facility in Telangana this week, instantly doubling the company's manufacturing capacity to 11.1 gigawatts. That's enough production power to significantly accelerate India's transition away from fossil fuels.

The numbers behind this operation are staggering. The automated production lines manufacture one complete solar module every four seconds while maintaining precision quality. The 75-acre campus uses AI-powered inspection systems and robotic vehicles to move materials, representing some of the most advanced clean energy manufacturing anywhere in the world.

The facility is also India's first Zero Bus Bar manufacturing unit, using cutting-edge TOPCon technology that makes solar panels more efficient at converting sunlight into electricity. This means each panel produces more clean power from the same amount of space.

But Premier Energies isn't stopping there. The company also broke ground on a massive battery storage facility that will produce 6 gigawatt-hours of energy storage systems annually. They're adding an aluminum frame plant too, with capacity for 18,000 metric tonnes per year.
