
Indian Startup Tackles Solar's Biggest Problem With New Tech
A team in India is making solar panels from a material that could last longer and work better than silicon. They've built a testing platform to prove it can survive real-world conditions.
Solar panels have been stuck with the same problem for years: silicon works, but it's nearly maxed out on efficiency and can't bend or flex.
P3C Technology and Solutions thinks they've found the answer. The Gurugram startup is manufacturing solar modules from perovskite, a material scientists have been studying for a decade that converts sunlight into energy more efficiently than traditional silicon.
Founded in 2019 by Sooraj Kumar after research at IIT BHU, the company has created two products. MySUN Glass puts perovskite on rigid glass panels like conventional solar. MySUN Flex applies it to bendable sheets that can wrap around curved surfaces like car roofs or flexible structures where traditional panels won't work.
The company's panels hit 19.3% efficiency in cells, certified by India's National Institute of Solar Energy. Their flexible panels reach about 15% efficiency, and semi-transparent versions clock in around 20%.
Here's the catch: perovskite solar cells have broken lab records for years, but they've had a fatal flaw. They degrade quickly under heat, moisture, and UV light, which is exactly what solar panels face every day. Almost nobody has managed to turn a lab breakthrough into a product that lasts years instead of months.

P3C is attacking that problem head-on. They developed their own assembly line with capacity for 100 kilowatts of small modules, with plans to reach one megawatt. They're sending modules for durability testing at national labs and plan to validate them at the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
The Ripple Effect
In March 2024, P3C launched P3SKY, a testing platform where other manufacturers can validate perovskite modules under real-world conditions before committing to production. It's an unusual move for a company selling the technology, but Kumar argues the industry's real obstacle isn't setting efficiency records but proving reliability.
The company raised $250,000 from Oberoi Thermit, an industrial machinery company, in June 2023, with another $3 million committed after successful trials. Having an industrial manufacturer as a backer gives them expertise in building production lines, not just raising capital.
P3C calls itself India's first perovskite solar cell manufacturer and targets gigawatt-scale capacity by 2027. That's a massive leap from their current hundreds of kilowatts. They're also working on perovskite-silicon tandem modules with one of India's largest silicon manufacturers and developing anti-soiling coatings.
The company hasn't published customers, orders, or revenue yet, but institutional buyers are testing their modules for initial trials.
If P3C can solve perovskite's durability problem, solar energy could go places it's never been able to reach before.
