Kate and William Return to Charity They Funded 15 Years Ago

Instead of accepting wedding gifts 15 years ago, Prince William and Kate asked guests to donate to charities they cared about. On their anniversary this week, they returned to see how one of those charities is still changing lives.

The couple visited IntoUniversity's Walworth center in London, where Year 5 students were exploring astronomy and designing space habitats. The education charity helps young people facing disadvantage reach their full potential through free workshops and university preparation programs.

Back in 2011, IntoUniversity was one of 26 charities chosen to receive donations from the Royal Wedding Gift Fund. The couple's request raised over £1 million for causes close to their hearts. For IntoUniversity, the timing couldn't have been better.

"Their Royal Highnesses' Royal Wedding Gift Fund provided generous support at a crucial moment for IntoUniversity," said Rachel Carr, the charity's Chief Executive and Co-Founder. The funding not only kept their programs running but gave them the confidence to expand.

The Ripple Effect

That wedding day generosity 15 years ago has grown into something remarkable. IntoUniversity now supports tens of thousands of young people across the UK each year. The charity's FOCUS Days introduce students to university life and help them build skills that promote success in school and beyond.

During their visit, William and Kate joined the children for hands-on activities, watching as the students tackled team challenges and explored career possibilities in science and space exploration. The visit marked both a personal milestone and a chance to witness the lasting impact of their wedding celebration.

After spending time with the students, the couple reportedly enjoyed lunch at The Goring in London, the same hotel where Kate stayed the night before their 2011 wedding. They also shared a candid family photo on social media showing them relaxed in the grass with their three children and their dog Orla during their Easter holiday in Cornwall.

Fifteen years after saying their vows at Westminster Abbey, the couple's commitment to causes that matter continues to create opportunities for young people across Britain.
