Lagos Senator Gives $450K to Students and Entrepreneurs

Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun handed out more than a million exercise books and $450,000 in cash grants to students and entrepreneurs across Lagos Central Senatorial District this week, directly supporting 2,300 people working toward better lives.

The initiative touched 186,000 public school students, giving each one six exercise books to last the semester. Another 300 college students received $200 scholarships to help cover tuition and supplies.

"This theme captures the essence of our journey, our commitment to building a future where every child is educated, every community is supported, and every young person is empowered to lead," Eshinlokun explained at the distribution event Monday.

The program also handed $200 each to 2,000 aspiring entrepreneurs selected from all 93 voting districts across Lagos Central. Local government leaders and community groups nominated beneficiaries who showed genuine need and strong potential to build sustainable small businesses.

The scholarships and business grants create impact far beyond the individual recipients. When a student stays in school instead of dropping out for financial reasons, entire families benefit from their future earning potential.

Lagos State APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi praised the focus on young people. "I am sure this investment will linger in the minds of the children for years to come," he said at the event.

The exercise book distribution solves a practical problem parents face every term: buying supplies for multiple children strains household budgets already stretched thin. By covering this basic need, families free up money for food, utilities, and other essentials.
