"I am a lifelong New Yorker, and we're at our best when we are supporting each other," Lauper said in a statement. The two-time Grammy winner called performing at the event a chance to honor "the brave members of the NYPD" who are "such an important part of our community."

MSG Executive Chairman Jim Dolan said the concert sends a clear counter-message to negative voices. "Cries of 'defund the police' and other negative statements do not reflect the true feelings of New Yorkers," he explained. The event aims to show that the city's majority supports and appreciates its police force.
