Michigan Firefighters Rescue Driver from Submerged Jeep

A driver stranded in a submerged vehicle off the Michigan coast got a second chance thanks to firefighters who refused to let water stand in their way.

On August 19, the Unionville Fire Department responded to an emergency call at 7:40 a.m. about a vehicle in the water near Vassar Road. When crews arrived, they found a Jeep Wrangler stuck in 3 to 4 feet of water, roughly 100 yards from shore.

Firefighters didn't hesitate. They quickly put on specialized water rescue suits and launched a Rapid Deployment Craft to reach the stranded driver.

Once they arrived at the vehicle, rescue teams performed an immediate medical check on the occupant. They carefully transferred the driver to their rescue craft and brought them safely back to land.

The driver walked away from the incident alive and well. ACW Ambulance Service and MMR took over for medical evaluation, ensuring the person received proper care.

This rescue showcases what happens when communities invest in specialized training and equipment. The Unionville Fire Department's water rescue capabilities turned what could have been a tragedy into a successful save.

Multiple agencies worked together seamlessly that morning. The Tuscola County Sheriff's Office, ambulance services, and D&J Towing all played their part in the operation.

The entire rescue and vehicle recovery took just over two hours. All units cleared the scene by 9:45 a.m., leaving behind only tire tracks and one incredible story of teamwork.
