Michigan Nurse Saves Man Who Collapsed During Comedy Show

Amy Rowe doesn't get many nights off from her job at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital or raising three kids, but when she does, she's still a hero.

On March 6th, Rowe and her husband grabbed front row seats at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor to see comedian Emily Catalano. The couple was enjoying a rare Friday night out when Catalano asked Rowe about her work in the area.

"I'm a nurse," Rowe told the audience. Minutes later, those words would become lifesaving.

A man in the audience stood up and tried walking toward the back of the room. He struggled to stay on his feet and collapsed to the ground as the crowd gasped.

Rowe didn't hesitate. She jumped up from her table just feet away and rushed to help the man lying on the floor.

She instructed someone to call 911 while she assessed his condition. When paramedics arrived, Rowe even walked outside to the ambulance to check on the patient, who appeared alert and doing better after getting fresh air.

The show continued after the emergency, but everyone left with an unforgettable memory. Catalano caught the entire moment on video and shared it online, where it quickly went viral.

Rowe spoke with MLive about why she loves being a nurse, even when duty calls on date night. "I love that I get to be a helper no matter where I'm at and to care for people in tough times of their life," she said.
