Mississippi Storm Survivor Gets Clean Laundry, Pays It Forward

Living alone in rural Ripley, Mississippi, Leslie thought he could weather the severe winter storm that swept through his community. Then temperatures inside his home dropped below freezing, and he lost electricity, heat, and running water for days.

"It felt like living in your freezer," Leslie recalled. Without power, even basic hygiene became impossible, and fallen trees blocked his driveway.

Help arrived from multiple directions. Friends cleared the trees blocking his exit, while local organizations provided food and warmth. Then P&G's Disaster Relief Program and partner Matthew 25: Ministries rolled in with mobile shower trailers and Tide Loads of Hope, a program offering free laundry service to disaster survivors.

For Leslie, getting a hot shower and clean clothes meant regaining something precious. "I can't describe how it feels to be rescued," he said, calling it a "slice of normalcy" during an overwhelming time.

The story didn't end there. Recently, Leslie received an invitation to visit Matthew 25: Ministries headquarters in Blue Ash, Ohio, where he reunited with the team members who had helped him in Ripley.

During his visit, he toured the warehouse and disaster relief vehicles, seeing firsthand how the organization prepares for emergencies. Then came the most meaningful part: Leslie joined P&G volunteers to pack care kits with essentials like Gillette razors, Olay products, and Head & Shoulders shampoo for future disaster survivors.
