Moldova Installs Record 315 MW of Solar Power in 2025

Moldova set a solar power record in 2025 that puts many larger countries to shame. The small Eastern European nation installed 315 MW of solar capacity last year, exceeding its 2024 record of 209 MW by more than 50%.

The country now boasts 710 MW of total solar capacity, making solar energy its leading renewable power source. That's impressive for a nation roughly the size of Maryland with a population of 2.5 million people.

Moldova's solar boom didn't happen by accident. The government created smart incentives that work for everyone, from individual homeowners to major energy companies.

Large solar parks up to 1 MW receive 15-year fixed price guarantees, giving investors the security they need to commit. This program alone has supported 151 MW of solar installations across the country.

Homeowners and small businesses can also join the solar revolution through two programs. The original net-metering system, launched in 2018, and the newer net-billing mechanism introduced in 2024 both support installations up to 200 kW.

The results speak for themselves. By the end of 2025, Moldova had 8,713 solar energy producers, including individuals and businesses, generating 195 MW of power.

What's even more encouraging is that 302 MW of solar power operates without any government support at all. These free-market installations prove that solar energy in Moldova makes financial sense on its own, attracting international investors who see the country's potential.
