Nigeria Police Rescue 30 Trafficking Victims in Major Bust

Thirty young people from Mali are finally free after Nigerian police shut down a sophisticated trafficking operation that turned victims into pawns in fake kidnapping schemes.

The Nigeria Police Force arrested 13 suspects in early May following a coordinated raid in Nasarawa State, just outside the capital. The operation ended months of exploitation for victims who had traveled from Mali and other West African nations hoping for better opportunities.

The criminal network operated with cruel precision. Traffickers promised young people lucrative jobs in Nigeria and helped arrange migration to Europe, collecting fees for processing and transportation. Once victims arrived, the syndicate held them in homes in Mararaba and Karu under restrictive conditions.

When victims couldn't pay additional money demanded by their captors, the scheme took a darker turn. The traffickers forced them to call relatives back home and pretend they'd been kidnapped, pressuring families to send ransom payments into syndicate-controlled accounts.

Police identified Abdul Ngaki as the ringleader. Investigators began tracking the network after receiving intelligence reports about several foreign nationals who had disappeared under suspicious circumstances in Nigeria.

The Intelligence Response Team conducted the rescue operation on May 7th at hideouts along Barrister Road in Rugan Dakachi. All 30 rescued individuals were Malian nationals who had been trapped in the exploitation cycle.
