Nigeria Students Get Free Exams in Education Partnership

Thousands of students in Igbo-Eze South, Nigeria, can now take their college entrance and high school graduation exams for free, thanks to a new partnership launched this week.

The local government teamed up with the First Lady of Enugu State and two foundations to cover all registration fees for JAMB (college entrance) and WAEC (high school graduation) exams. For families struggling to afford the costs, this partnership removes a major barrier to their children's education.

"These partnerships exemplify the power of purposeful collaboration in addressing real social challenges," said Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, the Igbo-Eze South chairman. The initiative specifically targets students whose families can't afford the exam fees that stand between them and their academic futures.

The First Lady's Custoscare Foundation took an extra step by sponsoring all female JAMB candidates in the area. Meanwhile, the Rauf Badamosi Foundation covered WAEC registration fees for every eligible student in the region.

The program launched as part of the 2026 Igbo-Eze South Local Government Education Support Initiative. It aims to strengthen human capital development and empower young people to pursue their academic dreams without financial roadblocks.

The Ripple Effect

This initiative does more than just pay exam fees. It sends a powerful message that education access matters to everyone, from local government officials to business leaders and community foundations.

When students can take their exams, they gain the credentials needed for college admission and future employment. That creates a ripple effect through families and communities as educated young people build careers and give back.

Chairman Ukwueze reminded the student beneficiaries that this support comes with responsibility. "This investment in your education is a vote of confidence in your potential," he said, encouraging them to use their education to serve their communities.

The program reflects Governor Peter Mbah's "Tomorrow Is Here Agenda," which focuses on investing in young people through education. Local officials say no child in Igbo-Eze South should be left behind simply because of their family's financial circumstances.

Education remains one of the surest paths to opportunity, and this partnership just opened that path for thousands more students.
