Nigerian School Opens AI and Robotics Hub for Students

A Nigerian school is giving its students hands-on access to artificial intelligence, robotics, and cutting-edge tech tools that most adults have never touched.

Corona Schools officially opened its new tech hub at its Ibeju-Lekki campus, a 70th-anniversary gift from the school's alumni association. The facility represents a bold bet on experiential learning, where students build, code, and problem-solve instead of just memorizing facts.

The hub comes equipped with AI labs, robotics equipment, virtual reality systems, and digital media production studios. Students from elementary through secondary school will use these tools to turn ideas into real solutions for community challenges.

Chairman Olaniyi Yusuf called the project "a seed that would grow into a large tree." His vision extends beyond the school gates: Corona plans to offer the hub's resources to teachers, staff, and eventually the broader academic community to build digital skills across Nigeria.

The idea grew from an unexpected source. When COVID-19 forced schools worldwide to close, Corona Schools pivoted to online learning without missing a day of instruction. CEO Adeyoyin Adesina saw an opportunity in that success.

"We realized we had built something special during the pandemic," Adesina explained. Rather than abandoning that digital infrastructure when classrooms reopened, the school decided to expand it into something transformative.

The Ripple Effect

The tech hub signals a shift in how Nigerian schools think about preparing students for the future. Corona isn't just adding computers to classrooms. They're redesigning education around collaboration, creativity, and real-world problem solving.

The school plans to record lessons and produce educational content that students beyond Corona can access. A Language Boot Camp is in development for diaspora Nigerians wanting to learn indigenous languages, blending cultural preservation with modern tech delivery.

Industry professionals will mentor students in the hub, connecting classroom learning to actual career paths. The facility supports peer-to-peer teaching, where students learn by working together on projects rather than competing for test scores.

Adesina emphasized that this is just the beginning. Corona Schools plans to roll out similar digital learning strategies across all its campuses, staying ahead of global education trends rather than catching up to them.

For a generation of Nigerian students, the tech hub offers something rare: access to the same cutting-edge tools their peers in Silicon Valley or Singapore use. They'll graduate not just with diplomas, but with portfolios of projects they've built and problems they've solved.
