Penn's Amelia Kristen Breaks School Record, Ranks 2nd in NCAA

When Amelia Kristen stepped onto the track at Penn's Ott Center Friday, she didn't just break her own school record. She demolished it.

The Penn junior scored 4,199 points in the women's pentathlon, rocketing to second place in the NCAA rankings. Her performance fell just 10 points short of the Ivy League record, a milestone that now feels within reach.

Kristen's dominance showed in every event. During the long jump, she soared 6.16 meters (20 feet, 2.5 inches), crushing the school record and taking first place. She followed with a second-place finish in the high jump at 1.69 meters and completed the 800-meter run in 2:14.14.

But Kristen wasn't the only Penn athlete making history that day. Freshman Yuliya Maslouskaya scored 3,891 points, claiming the second-best performance in program history. Another freshman, Giuliana Ligor, tallied 3,732 points for fourth all-time in Penn's record books.

On the men's side, senior Jake Rose placed third in the heptathlon with 5,586 points. Rose claimed first in the pole vault, clearing 4.66 meters (15 feet, 3.5 inches), and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.94 seconds.

When one athlete breaks through, others follow. Kristen's record-breaking day created momentum that lifted the entire team, with three women now holding spots in Penn's all-time top four. The freshman performances especially hint at exciting seasons ahead.
