Teen Golfer Wins Championship, Earns Pro Tour Shot at 16

When Kotomi Fukutake won the 2026 LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Championship, she didn't just take home a trophy. The 16-year-old from Japan also earned an invitation to compete in a professional tournament on the Epson Tour, the official qualifying tour for the LPGA.

Fukutake dominated the Bell National division at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, leading from start to finish. She opened with rounds of 69 and 71, then closed with a 68 to finish at 8-under par, defeating her closest competitor by a single stroke.

Over three days, she made 16 birdies and never let anyone catch her. Now she gets to test those skills against professional golfers at the Dream First Bank Charity Classic in Garden City, Kansas.

This marks the first time the Girls Golf Championship has awarded its winner a spot in an Epson Tour event. The change creates a direct bridge from junior success to professional opportunity, turning a youth tournament into a genuine launching pad.

"I feel a little nervous," Fukutake said before her professional debut. "But I'm excited."

The Ripple Effect

The Girls Golf program built this moment through more than scorecards and swing tips. Based on five principles (empower, enrich, engage, exercise, and energize), it teaches young players about confidence, community, and possibility.

Fukutake felt that impact firsthand. "I got some messages from Girls Golf," she shared. "I was reading letters from little girls, and I was really surprised."

Those letters prove the program works both ways. While Fukutake learned life lessons through golf, younger girls now watch her step onto a professional course and see their own potential.

"Through Girls Golf, I've learned a lot of things about golf and about life," Fukutake said. Now she's putting those lessons to work at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, where she'll compete against players trying to reach the LPGA Tour.

For Fukutake, this isn't just another tournament. It's proof that junior championships can open professional doors, and that a breakthrough week can become a stepping stone to something bigger.
