Private School Bright SHS Reaches Ghana Quiz Semi-Finals

Bright Senior High School just made history in Ghana's National Science and Maths Quiz, becoming the first private school to reach the semi-finals in the competition's history. The underdog team sealed their historic run with a heart-stopping 27-26 victory over Chemu SHTS in the 2026 quarter-finals.

The win is even more remarkable given where Bright started. Just two years ago in 2024, the school made its competition debut and crashed out in the preliminary rounds. They faced the same early exit in 2025.

But 2026 told a different story. After sneaking into the knockout rounds as one of five runners-up, Bright pulled off a major upset by eliminating Ghana Secondary Technical School, a former champion. That victory earned them their first quarter-final appearance.

The quarter-final match looked grim for most of the contest. Bright trailed in third place heading into the final round, sitting two points behind Chemu SHTS. But the team saved their best performance for when it mattered most, surging from third to first in the closing minutes to clinch the semi-final spot.
