Pune's $30K Agri-Tech Hackathon Opens to Global Innovators

Farmers and tech innovators will soon team up in Pune, India, to tackle some of agriculture's biggest challenges with artificial intelligence, robotics, and renewable energy.

The second International Agri Hackathon runs May 15-17 at the College of Agriculture in Pune. Registration is now open to anyone passionate about agricultural technology, from students to startups to farmers themselves.

"The hackathon is a significant step towards integrating technology with agriculture to empower farmers, improve productivity, and ensure food security," says Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi. The event is jointly organized by Pune District Administration, the Maharashtra Department of Agriculture, and leading agricultural institutions.

Participants will tackle nine crucial themes affecting Indian agriculture today. These include smart water management, AI-powered farm machinery, climate-resilient crops, and disaster prediction systems. Other focus areas cover soil health, renewable energy from agricultural waste, pest management, and improving how crops get from farm to market.

The competition offers serious incentives for breakthrough ideas. First place wins 25 lakh rupees (approximately $30,000), while second place takes home 15 lakh rupees ($18,000). But the real opportunity goes beyond prize money.

Winning teams get access to incubation support and funding to actually build their solutions. That makes this more than a weekend competition for early-stage agricultural technology startups looking to scale.

This hackathon represents a growing shift in how India approaches farming challenges. Instead of top-down solutions, the event brings farmers directly into the innovation process alongside researchers and entrepreneurs.
