RIT Men's Lacrosse Claims 13th Liberty League Championship

The Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers just reminded everyone why they're a dynasty in Division III lacrosse.

RIT defeated Union 17-7 on Sunday to claim their 13th Liberty League championship title. The win continues a remarkable streak that saw the Tigers win 11 straight conference championships from 2012 to 2023.

Sophomore attacker Ryan Sanders put on a show, scoring five goals and tallying seven points in the championship game. His performance earned him the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award after netting nine goals across two games.

The game didn't start smoothly for the Tigers. Union jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, but RIT responded with four straight goals to take control. By halftime, the Tigers led 9-4 and never looked back.

The third quarter sealed the victory. RIT outscored Union 7-0 in the frame, turning a competitive game into a celebration. Six different Tigers found the net during that dominant stretch, showcasing the team's depth and balanced attack.

Senior goalie Alex Zborowski anchored the defense with nine saves. On the offensive end, sophomore midfielders Ryan Bullock and Ryan Langille each contributed a goal and two assists, while senior attacker Tyson Allison added two goals of his own.

The Ripple Effect

This championship means more than another banner in the rafters. RIT earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, marking their 16th consecutive appearance and 27th overall. The Tigers know the national stage well, having won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.

The team's success reflects years of building a winning culture. First-year players like faceoff specialist Philip Minardo and midfielder Quinn Kailbourne stepped up alongside experienced seniors, showing that RIT's program develops talent at every level.

For a school known for its engineering and technology programs, the Tigers prove that excellence extends beyond the classroom. Their consistency over more than a decade demonstrates what's possible when talent meets dedication and strong coaching.
