At a packed shopping mall in western Beijing, 95-centimeter robots dressed in colorful lion costumes are rehearsing traditional dances while curious families gather to watch. These AI-powered performers are bringing a modern twist to one of China's oldest celebrations.

The robots, developed by Chinese startups like Booster Robotics, are the stars of a technology-themed temple fair marking its second year during Lunar New Year festivities. They're not just putting on shows. They're also competing in fully autonomous 3v3 soccer matches without any human control.

"Once the whistle sounds, the remote control will all be put aside," explains Ren Zixin, director of marketing at Booster Robotics. The robots make their own decisions, coordinate passes, and even assign one teammate as goalkeeper through group decision-making processes.

The lion dance performances showcase another impressive feat. The robots learned traditional movements by watching videos, then perfected choreographed routines through motion-control training. This ensures each performance maintains cultural authenticity while demonstrating cutting-edge AI capabilities.

China has been investing heavily in robotics that can perform complex tasks with minimal human intervention. This festival demonstrates how that technology can honor tradition rather than replace it.

Fair organizer Qiu Feng sees the event as a bridge between past and future. "Technology is developing faster and becoming more advanced every day," he notes. "As long as we keep up with this trend, our temple fair will continue to evolve and rise with the times."

Parents attending the fair expressed thoughtful perspectives about the technology on display. While impressed by the robots' technical abilities, they emphasized that emotional connection remains irreplaceable during family celebrations.

"In terms of technology, they can do many things even better than human beings," one parent observed. "But when it comes to emotion, robots may not be able to replace humans anytime soon."
