Saudi Arabia Manufactures Its First Lenovo Laptop

A laptop manufacturing facility in Riyadh just made history by producing Saudi Arabia's first locally made Lenovo computer, signaling a major shift in where the world's technology gets built.

Lenovo unveiled the device at LEAP 2026 in August, marking the successful launch of its new Saudi manufacturing plant. Mass production of select products will begin by late 2026, making the facility the first globally to produce Lenovo's entire portfolio under one roof, including PCs, desktops, Motorola smartphones, and servers.

The milestone represents more than just a new factory. It's the result of a year-long partnership between Lenovo and ALAT that focused on developing local talent and building capabilities that will stay in the Kingdom for years to come.

Saudi engineers completed the first wave of specialized training at Lenovo's global manufacturing facilities, gaining hands-on experience in advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies. The training partnership includes support from the Human Resources and Development Fund and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.

Lenovo has also established its Middle East, Turkey, and Africa regional headquarters in Riyadh over the past year. Dr. Rabeah Alzaidy recently joined to lead research and development initiatives, further cementing the company's commitment to innovation in the Kingdom.

The Ripple Effect spreads far beyond Saudi borders. The Riyadh facility joins Lenovo's network of more than 30 manufacturing sites across 11 countries, strengthening the company's globally diversified supply chain. For Saudi Arabia, it advances Vision 2030 goals by creating skilled jobs, transferring knowledge, and building the industrial foundation needed to compete on the world stage.

Dr. Muhammad Aldawood, Acting CEO of ALAT, emphasized what matters most: "The capability we build together stays in the Kingdom for the years ahead." That means the engineers trained today will train the next generation, creating a sustainable ecosystem of technical expertise.

The facility positions Saudi Arabia as a regional hub for advanced manufacturing at a time when companies are actively diversifying where they produce technology. It proves that ambitious national goals, long-term investment, and local talent can converge to create real economic transformation.
