Saudi Arabia Opens 142 Ecotourism Parks for Investment

Saudi Arabia is turning its vast natural landscapes into thriving ecotourism destinations while protecting the environment and creating thousands of jobs.

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification announced 142 investment opportunities across the Kingdom's national parks on July 2. Seven of these projects will launch in the Eastern Province, with more opportunities spanning over 60 million square meters of natural terrain.

The ambitious package includes projects for camping, caravanning, events, ecotourism, and agritourism. Investment periods range from five to 25 years, giving businesses time to build sustainable operations.

Huda bint Abdullah Al-Buqami, director general of the General Department for Development and Investment, emphasized the dual focus on profit and preservation. The projects aim to develop tourism while strengthening local economies and creating meaningful employment.

The numbers tell an impressive story. Expected investments exceed 700 million Saudi Riyals (about $186 million USD), with projected returns up to 16 percent. The center anticipates these projects will contribute more than 2 billion Riyals to the nation's GDP.

The Ripple Effect

This initiative will create approximately 7,000 jobs across Saudi Arabia, breathing new economic life into communities near national parks. Local residents will gain employment opportunities while their regions attract visitors from within the Kingdom and around the world.

The diversity of investment opportunities means different communities can develop tourism suited to their unique landscapes and resources. From desert camping experiences to agricultural tourism, each project celebrates Saudi Arabia's natural heritage.

Environmental sustainability remains central to every project. Al-Buqami stressed that all developments will balance growth with conservation, ensuring natural sites remain protected for future generations.

The initiative supports Saudi Vision 2030's goals of diversifying the economy beyond oil while showcasing the Kingdom's natural beauty. By partnering with the private sector through the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the government is creating a framework where business success and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.
