Saudi Arabia Partners with Veolia on Water and Waste Tech

Saudi Arabia is making a massive leap forward in environmental innovation, partnering with French company Veolia to transform how the desert nation manages water and waste.

Veolia signed three strategic agreements with Saudi industrial leaders Acwa, Maaden, and Khazeen in September 2026. The deals focus on advancing water technologies and hazardous waste management across the country's most critical sectors.

The partnership with Acwa, a world leader in private water desalination, aims to make seawater conversion more efficient and eco-friendly. Together, they'll optimize plants that currently produce 9.7 million cubic meters of freshwater daily, enough to fill nearly 4,000 Olympic swimming pools.

The environmental impact is staggering. Improved desalination processes could eliminate 500,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year, equal to taking 110,000 cars off the road. At the same time, the upgrades will lower operating costs and strengthen water security for communities across Saudi Arabia.

The collaboration with Maaden, Saudi Arabia's leading mining company, tackles water recycling and waste reduction in the mining industry. Veolia's technologies will help treat and reuse industrial water while finding ways to turn mining waste into valuable resources through circular economy practices.

The third agreement with Khazeen, which manages LPG storage infrastructure nationwide, brings environmental solutions to the energy sector. Facilities across Saudi Arabia will get upgraded water treatment and hazardous waste management systems, helping the country meet its ambitious decarbonization goals.
