Indian Startup Turns 300 Tons of Plastic Into Furniture

Plastic waste is getting a second life as furniture, interior panels, and everyday products thanks to a startup on a mission to cool down the planet.

Minus Degre, based in Ghaziabad, collects plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or oceans and transforms it into Eco-Panel, a versatile material that rivals traditional options. The company's name hints at its goal: reducing the environmental temperature one recycled bottle at a time.

The startup has processed 300 tons of plastic waste so far, turning trash into treasure for over 200 business clients and 3,000 individual customers. Major brands including Adidas and Steve Madden have chosen Eco-Panel for their retail spaces, proving that sustainability and style can go hand in hand.

Co-founder Rahul Vashukhi says the material is filling a crucial gap in India's market. "Many are using our Eco-Panel as an alternative to marble or quartz," he explains. "There is a dearth of indigenous eco-friendly materials in India. We are trying to fill that gap."

The panels can be customized for different uses, from office furniture to home interiors to utility products. Over five years, the startup has built most of its clientele from the retail sector, where companies are increasingly seeking sustainable alternatives that don't sacrifice quality or aesthetics.

The Ripple Effect

Every ton of plastic Minus Degre recycles means less pollution in India's environment and fewer resources extracted for new materials. The company's work shows businesses they don't have to choose between sustainability and sophistication. By creating a homegrown alternative to imported eco-materials, the startup is also keeping jobs and innovation local while proving that India's plastic problem can become part of the solution.

The growing client list suggests that businesses and consumers alike are ready for beautiful products with a lighter environmental footprint.
