Serena Williams Returns to Tennis at London Tournament

Tennis legend Serena Williams is stepping back onto the court this summer, bringing one of sports' greatest careers out of retirement for a doubles comeback.

Williams will compete at the HSBC Championships beginning Saturday at The Queen's Club in London. The tournament runs through June 21 and serves as a warmup event for Wimbledon in July.

"Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," Williams said in a news release. "Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm excited to be back competing on one of the sport's most iconic stages."

The announcement ends nearly three years of speculation since Williams stepped away from professional tennis following the 2022 U.S. Open. She quietly re-entered the doping testing pool over the past year, sparking rumors of a return that she consistently denied until Monday's official confirmation.

Williams dominated tennis for over two decades, winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. She also claimed three Olympic gold medals in doubles competition, though her last doubles Grand Slam title came in 2016.
