Springfield Airport Adds 6 EV Charging Stations for Flyers
Electric vehicle drivers at Springfield-Branson National Airport can now charge while they travel, thanks to six new charging stations in the parking lot. The upgrade is part of a $2 million expansion that makes Missouri's third-largest airport more sustainable.
Travelers with electric vehicles just got a welcome upgrade at Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
Six new charging stations opened in the airport's expanded short-term parking lot, giving EV drivers a convenient way to power up while they fly. The stations charge 35 cents per kilowatt-hour and offer fast charging capabilities, perfect for quick top-ups or multi-day park-and-fly trips.
The charging stations are part of a $2 million parking lot expansion project. Airport officials say the addition responds to growing demand from passengers who drive electric vehicles in southwest Missouri.
"If you're parking for multiple days and want your vehicle ready when you return or just need to be powered up for the drive home, this new technology is an amenity that meets our passengers' needs," said Dave Schaumburg, assistant director of aviation operations and maintenance.

Missouri is home to nearly 30,000 electric vehicles, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. That number keeps climbing as more drivers make the switch to cleaner transportation.
The Ripple Effect
The charging stations represent just one piece of Springfield-Branson's broader push toward sustainability. In 2025, the airport installed five new jet bridges with the latest energy-efficient technology, reducing power consumption in both the terminal and parked aircraft.
"Energy efficiency and decisions focused on sustainability whenever possible are a part of our mindset of how we run this airport," said Brian Weiler, director of aviation.
The airport serves four airlines with nonstop flights to 15 destinations across the country. As Missouri's third-largest airport, the facility sets an example for other regional airports looking to modernize their infrastructure and reduce their environmental footprint.
Small changes at busy transportation hubs add up to major environmental benefits over time.
