Sundown Softball Returns to State Championship

Sundown High School's softball team is heading back to the state championship after winning consecutive playoff games that had their community on their feet.

The team secured their spot with a dramatic walk-off victory over Haskell on May 9, 2026, at the Ira ISD Sports Complex. Destiny Garza scored the winning run as teammates rushed the field in celebration.

Coach Meagan Gonzales guided her squad through the Region I-2A Division II semifinal playoff series with skill and heart. Players like pitcher Breigh Gregory, outfielder Avy McGlasson, and Araceli Ibarra at the infield all stepped up when it mattered most.
