TCU Women Win Back-to-Back Big 12 Championships

Three years ago, TCU women's basketball was in last place. Tonight, they're champions again.

The 11th-ranked Horned Frogs secured their second straight Big 12 regular season championship with an 83-70 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday. TCU (26-4) now has a shot at claiming the undisputed title when they face Baylor on Sunday.

The comeback was electric. TCU trailed 29-23 at halftime before exploding for 60 second-half points, including a jaw-dropping 35 points in the third quarter alone.

Senior Marta Suarez led the charge with a career-high 32 points, 26 of which came after halftime. Donovyn Hunter added 16 points while Olivia Miles nearly notched her sixth triple-double of the season with 15 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

The win also locked up the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament for TCU. They hold a one-game lead over both Baylor and West Virginia in the standings.

Why This Inspires

TCU's journey reads like a sports movie script. They're the first team in Big 12 history to win consecutive championships within three years of finishing dead last.

Head coach Mark Campbell has transformed the program in just three seasons. Since February 2024, the Horned Frogs have posted an incredible 66-11 overall record and 34-6 in conference play.

The rivalry reversal makes it even sweeter. After losing 37 straight games to Baylor, TCU has now won four consecutive matchups against their longtime nemesis.

This marks TCU's first back-to-back conference championships in the program's 49-year history. They join Baylor, Oklahoma, and Texas as the only Big 12 programs to repeat as regular season champions.

The team has exceeded expectations in 10 of their 14 Big 12 seasons, and all three years under Campbell. Their 26 wins this season are the second-most in program history.

Sunday's showdown with Baylor offers TCU a chance to claim sole possession of the title for the second straight year. Last season, they defeated the Bears 51-48 to win the university's first Big 12 basketball championship.
