Teen Mom Finds Daycare Worker Who Sheltered Her 30 Years Ago

Christina Louise Brook never forgot the woman who gave her and her baby a safe place to sleep when she was a homeless 15-year-old mother. After decades of searching for her name, a simple Facebook post brought them back together.

Brook was just 14 when she became pregnant in the mid-1990s while living in Sooke, British Columbia. She was couch surfing with her newborn son, struggling to stay in school while navigating an unstable childhood.

Edward Milne Community School introduced a daycare program for student parents, and that's where Brook met Donna Lynn Wilson. Wilson managed the daycare and quickly became a lifeline for the young mother and her baby.

When Brook picked up her son late in the day, Wilson would stay with them, offering diapers, snacks, and encouragement. On several occasions when Brook had nowhere to go, Wilson brought them to her own home and let them sleep in her family room.

"Not many people would have done what she did," Brook said. "The world truly needs more people like her."

Living with PTSD, Brook's memories from that difficult time became fragmented over the years. She often thought about Wilson but couldn't remember her name. Recently, she decided to try finding her through social media.

Brook posted in a local Sooke Facebook group with a decades-old photo of herself and her baby. She hoped someone might help identify the woman who had shown such kindness during one of the hardest periods of her life.

"I wasn't expecting the response it got," she said. Within a day, the post circulated widely across the community.

Then Wilson's son saw the post. He recognized the story and reached out to Brook, asking if she used to go by Chris and sometimes lived in Port Renfrew. When she confirmed both details, he told her it was his mother she was looking for.

Brook immediately sent Wilson a heartfelt message. "The kindness you extended to me and my son when we were faced with such hardship has always stayed with me," she wrote.

Wilson responded warmly, expressing happiness that Brook was doing well. For Brook, the reconnection brought the closure she had sought for years.
